Why Choose Double Elimination?

Double elimination ensures that a single bad game doesn't knock a talented team out of the running. This format is more forgiving and competitive, providing a better experience for participants. Our templates handle the complex "consolation stream" logic for you, so you can focus on the event itself.

Secure Your Results

To keep a permanent record of your tournament, we recommend exporting the final bracket as a PDF. In Google Sheets, go to File > Download > PDF Document (.pdf). For a professional look, remember to toggle off "Show gridlines" before exporting.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does double elimination differ from single elimination?

In single elimination, one loss and you are done. In double elimination, you need to lose twice. After a first loss, you drop to the losers bracket and can still fight back to the championship.

What bracket sizes are available?

We have 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64-team templates. Each includes both the winners and losers brackets with the progression logic built in.

How does the color coding work?

Winners bracket and losers bracket use different colors so you can see at a glance where each team stands and which path they are on.

Does the template handle the championship match correctly?

It accounts for the full scenario: the winners bracket champion faces the losers bracket champion, and if the losers bracket team wins, a reset (true final) match is played.

When should I use double elimination instead of single elimination?

When you want to reduce the impact of one bad game, when participants have traveled far to compete, or when you want more total matches and longer play time. The tradeoff is it takes more time and more rounds than single elimination.
